| Jan Wallis
came to the Methow Valley with her husband Don in 1972. Little
did she realize at that time that she and Don would
one day be partnering with their two young sons, Donnie and Peter
in a construction business. Today, the whole family is actively
involved, with Jan carrying a hefty share of the administrative
responsibilities, including
accounts receivable and taxes. She works closely with Pete
in preparing client billings. And most important to the crews,
she
prepares and delivers the paychecks and keeps the office refrigerator
stocked with cold drinks.
Jan graduated from the University of Washington with a degree
in education. She and Don moved around the country for several
years after Don was commissioned in the Navy and flew carrier
jets. They settled in the Methow Valley to raise their family, where
Jan taught school for several years. In 1987, when worked slowed
down in the Methow, she and Don moved to Lopez Island in the
San Juans. Jan began to help Don with the books, and steadily
the company grew, with eventual operations in both the Methow
Valley and the San Juan Islands.
In 2003, Jan and Don returned to the valley and their original
family home on Second Mile Ranch. Jan loves living in the Methow,
where she is close to her boys and their families. There’s
nothing she enjoys more than puttering in her garden, hanging
around with the whole family on a Sunday afternoon, or sitting
by the fire in the winter with a good book. Recently
Jan and Don traveled to Italy with a tour. She’d
like to travel some in the future. But most of the time, Jan
prefers to stay home. As far as she’s concerned, her home
in the Methow Valley is the best place in the world.
